Do you know that there is a fight for your focus? Your position in this world as a husband, father, son, brother, friend, family member, leader, and more is so important and yet there are forces that aim to pull your attention away from your purpose and significance in the world. There are forces that even try to block your knowledge of how precious you are to God as a beloved son.

The tactics used to pull you away are often subtle but effective. Shame is used to cause you to hide from those who need you most, you avoid what you think you will see in their eyes because you don’t like what you see in yourself. Fear of failure is used to keep you playing small in life. Temptation, addictions like we spoke about in the last post, are sent to consume your time, attention, and resources while also robbing you of your potential.

I have only named a few of the things that come against you to steal your focus away from what matters. What other methods can you think of? I don’t know about you, but when I call out the things that frequently sabotage me, they lose their effectiveness. This means I am fully aware of the traps and where they are and I can now choose to step around them.

Please answer these two questions for yourself and determine whether it is time to refocus your attention in some areas.

  1. What are your top 3-5 priorities? (Example: God/faith, Family, Work, Business, etc.)

  2. What are the things that often steal your time and attention away from your top priorities?
