The holidays can be an amazing time to celebrate and connect with family and at the same time can be really good for reminding us about what we’ve lost. We reminisce on good times, think about loved ones who are no longer here, think about how things have changed, the people we miss, and for some, it may not feel so great right now. In times like these, it is really important to take care of yourself, and here are some healthy ways to do that:
-
- Take inventory of your feelings
- If your thoughts or emotions are weighing heavily on you, share with a trusted friend or a therapist
- Try reconnecting with some loved ones, if possible – friends, family, those who you feel at home with
- Participate in activities that you enjoy even if you do them alone – go to the movies, eat at your favorite restaurant, have fun, make new friends
- Feed your spirit – pray, meditate, read – nourish the most important part of you so that you are strengthened and empowered during difficult times
They say home is where the heart is – be sure to take care of your heart this Christmas.
